History
1979
Alain Brumont inherits 17 ha from his father’s vineyard: Château Bouscassé.
1980
Alain Brumont buys Chêteau Montus. It is at this precise moment that he decides that the Tannat grape variety has the potential to produce exceptional wine.
1985
First Montus Prestige vintage. The first Madiran made from 100% Tannat and fully matured in new barrels and nicknamed « Petrus du Madiran » by great international wine tasters. Thanks to this Cuvée Prestige the qualitative revolution in Madiran got underway and thanks to the appellation, it found itself promoted amongst the great wines. Madiran regained all its splendour of the last century .
1988
Construction of an underground barrel cellar at Château Bouscassé (1200m²). It was the first wine cellar of this type built in South-West France.
1990
Always in search of new terroirs, Alain Brumont discovered a perfectly situated 10 hectare slope made up of large pebbles, ideal for the Tannat from which he produced Montus La Tyre, the best Madiran ever to be vinified!
1991
Alain Brumont was awarded the title of best winegrower in 1980 by the French gastronomic magazine: « Gault-Millau » followed by several articles placing him amongst the best winegrowers.
1995
Construction of a new wine cellar at Château Montus, named the Cathedral of Tannat.
1996
Château Montus Prestige 1995 obtained an excellent score of 96 points out of a 100 in Wines Advocate.
2000
First Montus La Tyre vintage.
2001
Launching of Torus, a new style of powerful deep intense round supple and elegant Madiran.
2003
Château Montus and the old wine cellar are completely renovated and the Château converted into an attractive residence reserved for groups and seminars.
2005
Alain Brumont was selected to take part in the 2005 Wine Experience, which gathered together the worlds top 100 winegrowers in New York.
2006
Châteaux Montus and Bouscassé figure amongst the greatest wines in the world in the eponymous guide by Bettane et Desseauve, among 50 other books on classifying the worlds greatest wines.
2007
A 14 international wine tasting jury gathered in Switzerland and placed Montus La Tyre 2001 in third position of the 10 worlds greatest wines.
